Almighty Renegade Saints Nation Almighty Renegade Saints Nation is a People/Brother Mob in jail and a renegade mob on the streets made up of mostly latinos. Their colors are Light Blue & Black Their symbols include a Stickman w/Halo and 3 slashes. One of the more violent and aggresive street gangs in the city of Chicago, the Saints have maintained control primarily over one areasince the 1960's, yet are known city wide. Their contingency for violence is outstanding. According to CPD gang intelligence, the gang has an estimated membership of about 150-to-200, both in prison and on the streets, and are connected to dozens of shooting incidents, and several murders over the last few years. The Saints originated in the Back of the Yards community in the late 1960's. The gang started as a predominantly Polish gang, but as the ethnicity of the community changed, so too did the gang. The Paulina street Saints made the Saints street gang known city-wide. They would go do drive-by shootings on the Northside, go to the clubs in large groups and fight the Northside street gangs spreading the Saints name and represent their symbols and affiliation. Latinos now constitute the vast majority of Saints membership. For whatever reason, the Saints have not attempted to expand in a mobile way until recently, being content with a their presence in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. The gang's borders are considered to be 43rd-to-47th, Ashland-to-Damen and operate predominantly along 45th street. Although the gang has been in the People Alliance since the early 1980's, they have few allies, if any at all. By the mid 1980's there were Saint gang members incarcerated in the prison system and the organization decided to join the People alliance for protection of the incarcerated members. The Saints were to said to be blessed into the People alliance by the Latin Kings as "cousins", hence the addition of the "Almighty" in the Saints gang title. The Saints were affiliated with the People alliance by 1992, but there was a tragedy that started a conflict between the Kings and the Saints. A member of the LK's shot and killed a member of the Saints. The Saints retaliated by doing the same, starting a gang war. Today, the two gangs are not officially at war with one another, however, the Almighty Saints and the Latin Kings remain at odds. The gangs main enemies are the Latin Souls, City Knights, La Raza, Gangster Two-Six, and Satan Disciples. Although some members engage in drug dealing, their main criminal endeavors consist of maintaining a reputation of being "crazy", and challenging rival gang members through acts of violence and bravado. In 2005, Chicago police initiated Operation "Broken Halo", which lead to the arrest of approximately 25 members of the gang and put pressure on their day-to-day operations. |
