The Spanish Lords originated in the Wicker Park neighborhood in around 1964. The Spanish Lords have always retained a tight relationship with the Latin Kings street gang; they were amongst the original gangs to join the People alliance in the late 1970's. The Spanish Lords original colors were Maroon & Black. The Spanish Lords have remained in the Wicker Park neighborhood for several decades operating mostly in the vicinities of North & Claremont and Armitage & Western, until the community began to experienced gentrification. As property was purchased, and lower class residents became displaced, they found it increasingly difficult to excercise any firm hold in the neighborhood. Today, the Spanish Lords remain small in number, primarily operating in the Bucktown neighborhood in the vicinity of Holstein Park. The Spanish Lords have become a more "low-key" gang on the streets due to neighborhood changes and police intensity. However, the gang has been known to make nice profits from drug sales. The Spanish Lords principle enemies are the Insane Unknowns and Maniac Latin Disciples street gangs, along with other various Folks gangs. In more recent events, the Spanish Lords presence in the Bucktown community has become more active and are expected to be expanding operations into neighboring communities.
